You'll learn how to: Add free-form tags to a deal for organisation, segmentation, or quick filtering on the pipeline board.
Time: 15 seconds.
Steps
Single deal
- On Revenue, click the deal to open the canvas.
- Find the Tags field. It's usually visible on the Check Fit tab or near the top of the canvas.
- Type a tag. Existing tags auto-suggest as you type.
- Press Enter to add. Repeat for multiple tags.
To remove a tag, click the X next to it.
Many deals at once
- On the Revenue board, switch to List view via the toolbar (Kanban only allows single-deal edits).
- Tick checkboxes for the deals to tag.
- The bulk-action toolbar slides up.
- Click Edit Fields.
- Pick Tags from the field dropdown.
- Choose Add (append) or Replace (overwrite the tag list).
- Type the tag and confirm.
Use deal tags well
Tags work best when they capture something that's NOT already a field. Patterns that work on deals:
- Project / initiative:
project:vmac-pipeline,project:abm-q1. - Source detail beyond the Source field:
source:linkedin-event,source:warmer-than-warm. - Risk flag:
risk:budget-cycle,risk:champion-leaving. - Team-specific markers:
for:exec-review,needs:legal-check.
Patterns that DON'T work:
- Stage / status (already a field).
- Owner (already a field).
- Pipeline (already a field).
- Value tier (use the value field and filter on
>=instead).
Filter the pipeline by tag
Once deals have tags:
- Open View Options > Filter.
- Pick the Tags field.
- Pick contains.
- Type the tag.
Save the filtered state as a view (see Save a custom view) for one-click access. Useful for things like "all deals flagged for exec review" or "all ABM Q1 deals".
Tags on the Reporting sheet
The Reporting side sheet's filter bar supports tag filtering. Useful for reporting questions like "what's the pipeline value of all project:abm-q1 deals?".
If something goes wrong
- Symptom: "Tags field isn't on the deal canvas." → Fix: Some workspace plans hide it by default. Try the bulk Edit Fields path, or contact support to enable tags on deals.
- Symptom: "Bulk Edit Fields doesn't list Tags." → Fix: The Tags field might be hidden in the Fields visibility config. Open View Options > Fields and confirm Tags is enabled.
- Symptom: "Auto-suggest doesn't show existing tags." → Fix: Tags are entity-specific. A tag created on contacts doesn't auto-suggest on deals (and vice versa). Type the tag in full; it gets created.
- Symptom: "I tagged 50 deals and want to untag them in one go." → Fix: Bulk Edit Fields with the Replace strategy and an empty tag list works. Or filter to the tag and bulk-edit-replace with a different tag.
