Add an action item or commitment

You'll learn how to: Create an action item linked to an opportunity, a contact, or neither.

Time: About 30 seconds.

What action items are for

Action items turn "I should email Sarah next Wednesday" into something Nynch brings back on Wednesday. They appear in:

  • The Activities card inside Today's Next Steps queue when due.
  • The linked opportunity canvas.
  • The linked contact's activity timeline.
  • Weekly activity tracking where applicable.

Add one when creating an opportunity

  1. Open the Create New Opportunity dialog.
  2. Click Add a next activity.
  3. Enter the title, due date, priority, and any useful context.
  4. Save the opportunity.

The activity is linked to the opportunity and, when available, its primary contact.

Add one from a contact

  1. Open the contact profile.
  2. Find the activity or timeline section.
  3. Click Add action item or Add commitment.
  4. Enter the details and save.

Add one from an opportunity

  1. Open the opportunity canvas.
  2. Use Add next activity in the relevant activity area.
  3. Enter the details and save.

What happens after

  • Future-dated work stays out of Today until its due date.
  • On the due date, it appears as a row in the single Activities card inside Next Steps.
  • Each row shows Due today or Overdue.
  • Completing a row updates the card without requiring a page refresh.

If something goes wrong

  • The add action is missing from a contact: Try the opportunity canvas or the more-actions menu on the profile.
  • The due date is wrong: Open the linked record and move the date forward.
  • The item is due but not visible: Open Next Steps and look inside the Activities card. Refresh once if it is still missing.
