Pause and Resume a Recording

You'll learn how to: Pause and resume a recording without losing the audio already captured.

Time: 2 minutes.

Prereqs: Nynch Listener installed and a recording in progress.

Pause a recording

While a recording is active, you'll see the Listener window with a live timer and a pulsing record indicator.

  1. Look for the Pause button in the Listener window (usually next to the timer or in the control bar).
  1. Click Pause. The pulsing indicator stops, and the timer pauses.
  2. Audio capture stops. Anything said while paused is not recorded.

Resume a recording

  1. When ready to resume, click the Resume button (or the same button, now labeled Resume).
  1. The pulsing indicator resumes, and the timer continues from where it paused.
  2. Audio capture resumes.

Important: Paused time does not count

Nynch counts only the time you actually record, not the time paused. If you record for 10 minutes, pause for 5 minutes, then record for another 10 minutes, your total talk time is 20 minutes (not 25).

This is important for free tier limits. See Listener free tier and limits for how time is counted.

Stop after pausing

You can pause and resume as many times as you need. To end the recording:

  1. After your last pause/resume cycle, click Stop & Send.
  2. Listener uploads the audio and transcribes it.

If something goes wrong

  • Symptom: "I clicked Pause but the timer didn't stop." → Fix: The timer may be lagging. Try clicking Pause again, or wait a moment for the UI to update. If the timer keeps going, restart Listener and record again.
  • Symptom: "After I paused and resumed, part of the audio at the resume point sounds cut off." → Fix: Brief cutoffs at pause/resume boundaries can happen due to system-level audio buffering. If it's more than a second or two, it may indicate a hardware or driver issue. Try a different recording mode (e.g., switch from system audio to microphone only). Contact Nynch support if it persists.
  • Symptom: "The Pause button is grayed out or not clickable." → Fix: Pause is only available during an active recording. Make sure the recording is in progress (you should see a pulsing indicator). If the button is still grayed out, restart Listener.
