You'll learn how to: Move a deal from one pipeline to another (most often from a sales pipeline into a retainer / client pipeline when the deal lands as recurring revenue).
Time: 30 seconds.
Prereqs: Your workspace has more than one pipeline configured.
Why this isn't drag-and-drop
The kanban board shows one pipeline at a time. Dragging a card between columns moves it between STAGES within the same pipeline. Moving a deal to a different PIPELINE entirely is a separate action because it usually means the deal lifecycle has changed (e.g. from "selling" to "delivering on retainer").
Steps
- Open Revenue.
- Click the deal to open the deal canvas.
- Find the Pipeline field on the canvas. It's typically on the Check Fit tab or the top of the overview section.
- Click the pipeline name to open the pipeline picker.
- Pick the destination pipeline.
- The picker may ask you to also pick a destination stage in the new pipeline (since stages don't carry over between pipelines).
- Confirm.
The deal disappears from the source pipeline and appears in the destination. Its activity history, stakeholders, notes, and value are preserved.
Common pattern: sales pipeline → client pipeline
When a deal lands as recurring revenue (retainer, subscription, ongoing contract), it makes sense to move it out of the active sales pipeline and into a separate "Clients" pipeline focused on delivery and renewal.
If your workspace has a client pipeline configured, the deal canvas surfaces a Transition to client pipeline prompt after the deal is marked Won. Clicking it walks the move automatically.
You can also dismiss the prompt and do it later from the pipeline picker.
What gets carried over
- Deal title, value, primary contact, owner.
- All stakeholders / committee members.
- Notes, activity timeline, attachments.
- Comments, AI brief, dossier.
- Tags and custom field values.
What does NOT carry over
- The current stage. The destination pipeline has its own stages, and you pick the new stage during the move.
- The probability default, since each stage has its own.
- Methodology-specific data (e.g. Fields Method checklist progress) if the destination pipeline uses a different methodology.
If something goes wrong
- Symptom: "I see only one pipeline in the picker." → Fix: Your workspace only has one pipeline. Either you can't move (because there's nowhere to go), or the second pipeline is filtered out. Some pipeline pickers hide client pipelines by default; look for a "Show all" toggle.
- Symptom: "The Pipeline field on the canvas isn't editable." → Fix: The deal is in a methodology-specific canvas (Whale Hunting, Sandler Submarine) where moving to a different methodology isn't supported inline. To move, change the methodology setting at the workspace level first, or close the deal and create a fresh one in the destination pipeline.
- Symptom: "I moved a deal and it's now in the wrong stage." → Fix: The move asks you to pick a destination stage. If you missed that prompt or picked wrong, open the deal on the new pipeline's board and drag it to the right column.
- Symptom: "I moved a deal but my retainer pipeline isn't showing it." → Fix: Refresh once. Some pipelines have Owner / view filters that hide records you didn't own previously. Switch the Owner filter to All members to confirm the deal is actually there.
Reverse: move from client back to sales
Same flow, opposite direction. Open the client deal, change the pipeline picker, pick a destination stage on the sales side. Useful when a client cancels and there's a re-engagement opportunity you want to track separately.
