Set a deal's decision date

You'll learn how to: Tell Nynch when you expect this deal to close, so it lands on the right forecast period and starts behaving like an active opportunity.

Time: 5 seconds.

Why this matters

The decision date drives a few things at once:

  • Which forecast period (this month / next quarter / etc) the deal counts toward.
  • Whether nudges fire on "deal going quiet" rhythms.
  • The countdown shown on the deal card and canvas.
  • AI suggestions about pacing (e.g. "no decision-maker mapped and only 12 days left").

A blank decision date is fine while you're scoping the work, but the deal will not show up in your forecast until it has one.

Steps

  1. Open the deal. You can click it from your pipeline board, the deals list, or search.
  2. At the very top of the deal canvas, find the Deal details bar. It shows Deal Name, Value, Decision Date, Company, Service, Owner.
  3. Find the Decision Date field. It has a calendar icon next to the label.
  4. Click into the field. A date picker opens.
  5. Pick a target date.
  6. The field saves inline. No Save button.
  7. The deal card on the pipeline now shows that date in its corner.

To clear it later, click the field again and clear the value, or pick a new date.

What to put in this field

  • An honest expected close, not a wish. If you don't know, leave it blank or pick the end of the current month as a placeholder. Update it when the prospect tells you their decision timeline.
  • For long-cycle deals, prefer the realistic decision week even if the contract date is later. The forecast cares about the decision, not the paperwork.
  • If you've been told "we'll decide next Tuesday", set Tuesday. If it slips, just update it.

If something goes wrong

  • Symptom: "The date picker won't open." → Fix: Refresh the page once. The inline-edit component initialises on canvas mount and can stall if the page was opened from a deep link before the deal loaded.
  • Symptom: "I picked a date but the deal card still shows no date." → Fix: The card list reads from a cached query. Click off the canvas and back, or refresh once.
  • Symptom: "I cleared the date and now the deal disappeared from my forecast." → Fix: This is expected. Set a date again to put it back.
  • Symptom: "I can't find the Decision Date field." → Fix: Make sure you're on the standard deal canvas, not a custom layout. The field sits in the top details bar with a small calendar icon.
