You'll learn how to: Tell Nynch you've engaged a contact through a channel it couldn't see, so the rhythm cadence resets and they don't keep showing as overdue.
Time: 5 seconds.
When to use
Nynch tracks "last touched" automatically when it can see the interaction: connected email, connected calendar meetings, LinkedIn messages (when the Chrome extension is installed), phone calls logged via integration.
It CANNOT see:
- Phone calls on a phone that isn't connected to Nynch.
- In-person meetings without a calendar invite.
- WhatsApp on a personal phone.
- Conversations on Slack DMs or other unconnected channels.
- Mailing a physical letter / sending a thoughtful gift.
When you've engaged through any of those, mark the contact as touched manually. Otherwise they'll keep showing as overdue and your rhythm will lie.
Steps
From Today's Rhythm card
- Open Today in the sidebar.
- Click the Rhythm section tab.
- Find the contact's card.
- Click Mark as touched (or the equivalent action on the card).
- The card moves out of today's queue. The contact's last-touched date is reset to now.
From the contact profile
- Open the Contacts table and click the contact's row.
- The profile overlay opens.
- Find the activity / timeline section.
- Click Log activity or Add touch.
- Optionally pick the channel (Phone, In-person, Other) and add a note.
- Save.
The touch lands on the contact's timeline with your specified channel and note.
What happens after
- Last-touched date updates to now.
- The contact moves out of today's Rhythm queue (assuming you marked them from Today; the manual log from the profile updates the date but doesn't re-evaluate today's queue immediately).
- The next appearance is calculated from now + rhythm cadence.
- If you provided a note, it lives on the contact's activity timeline.
Tip: add notes
A "marked as touched" with no note is fine but loses the context. A short note ("Phoned about the Q4 retainer, they want to revisit in January") makes the timeline far more useful three months later when you're prepping for a meeting prep.
The Today flow's mark-as-touched action usually lets you add a quick note inline; the profile log lets you add a longer one.
If something goes wrong
- Symptom: "Mark as touched action isn't on the card." → Fix: Some card variants only show Complete / Skip / Snooze. If yours is one of those, open the contact profile instead and log a touch from there.
- Symptom: "I marked them and they reappeared 5 minutes later." → Fix: The contact may be a member of multiple rhythms with different cadences. Mark-as-touched updates last-touched, but a more aggressive rhythm can still surface them. Check the contact's rhythm memberships in their profile.
- Symptom: "I want to log a touch with a specific date in the past." → Fix: Open the profile, click the activity / timeline section, and use Add activity with a custom date. The contact profile's activity log supports back-dated entries; Today's quick-action does not.
- Symptom: "The touch isn't showing on the contact's timeline." → Fix: Refresh the page. The timeline updates on next data load. If still missing after a refresh, the log may have failed silently; try logging again with a small note for redundancy.
