Assign a company to a deal

You'll learn how to: Link a deal to the right company, or create the company on the fly if it doesn't exist yet.

Time: 10 seconds.

Why this matters

Once a deal is linked to a company:

  • The company's account page lists this deal under its open opportunities.
  • Stakeholders (people you map on the deal) auto-link to the company.
  • Account-level research, intelligence cards, and rhythms anchor against the right entity.
  • Pipeline filters by company actually work for this deal.

Deals without a company still function, but they sit in a blind spot for account-level views.

Steps

  1. Open the deal.
  2. At the very top of the deal canvas, find the Deal details bar.
  3. The Company field shows a building icon next to the label.
  4. Click into the field. A searchable dropdown opens with the placeholder "Select company...".
  5. Start typing the company name.
  6. If the company exists, click it from the dropdown. The deal is linked.
  7. If it doesn't, the dropdown offers a "Create" option for your typed text. Click it. Nynch creates a minimal company record and links the deal to it.
  8. The field collapses back to a label. No Save button.

To change the company later, click the field and pick a different one. To clear it, open the dropdown and clear the selection.

What happens when you create on the fly

The quick-create only sets the name. Other fields (domain, industry, size, etc) are blank until you fill them in.

  • Open the new company's page from any deal-canvas link, or via the Accounts view in the sidebar.
  • Add the website domain so Nynch can enrich the company with industry data later.
  • See Add a custom field if you want a non-standard property on companies.

If something goes wrong

  • Symptom: "I can't find the company in the dropdown but I know it exists." → Fix: The search is name-based and case-insensitive but exact-substring. Try a shorter prefix. If you imported it via CSV, the name might have a trailing space; open the Companies list and clean it up.
  • Symptom: "I clicked Create and got a duplicate of an existing company." → Fix: Open both records and use the merge action from the Companies list to combine them. See Finding and fixing duplicates.
  • Symptom: "I cleared the company and now the deal's stakeholders look stranded." → Fix: Stakeholders stay linked to the deal, just not to a company. Pick a company again to re-anchor.
  • Symptom: "The dropdown shows old companies I deleted." → Fix: The dropdown reads a cached list. Refresh once.
