You'll learn how to: Walk the conversational onboarding wizard, what each step asks for, and which answers you can change later.
Time: 10 minutes for a thoughtful pass. 3 minutes if you're already clear on your ICP.
Prereqs: You signed up for Nynch and got an account. The onboarding wizard launches automatically the first time you sign in. If you skipped it (or want to redo it), Settings → Account has a Restart onboarding button.
Why this matters
The onboarding answers feed almost every AI feature Nynch ships: ICP scoring on contacts, Reply Coach tone, dossier generation, coaching prompts, the Today briefing. Bad answers here produce mediocre AI everywhere downstream. Good answers compound across thousands of interactions over the next year.
It's worth the 10 minutes. Skipping is fine, but you'll see a "Restart onboarding" prompt periodically until you complete it.
How to open the wizard (after skipping)
If you closed the wizard or want to redo it:
- Open Settings (gear icon, bottom-left of the sidebar).
- Account tab is open by default.
- Click the Restart Onboarding button.
A toast confirms "Restarting onboarding..." and Nynch routes you to /onboard, the conversational wizard.
The wizard format
It's conversational. You chat with an AI that asks one focused question at a time, offers multiple-choice answers, and accepts free-text when you have a more specific answer. It's not a long form to fill in; it's a 10-minute conversation.
You can go back to any earlier question, change your answer, and continue forward. The wizard remembers your progress if you close the tab and come back later.
The major sections
The wizard isn't strictly linear, but the topics it covers, in roughly this order:
1. About you
- Your name and job title.
- Photo (optional but recommended, since it shows on AI-drafted emails as your signature).
- Where you work (company name and domain).
The company info auto-builds your basic Profile fields. You can refine these later in Settings → Profile.
2. Your role
- Are you a solo founder / consultant, a fractional executive, an agency owner, an enterprise seller, or something else?
- Are you the only person doing sales at your company, or part of a sales team?
This shapes the rest of the conversation: solo consultants get different follow-up questions than enterprise sellers.
3. Who you sell to (your ICP)
- One to three target customer profiles. The wizard asks for:
- Industry / segment (e.g. "SaaS companies with 20-100 employees").
- Buyer role (e.g. "Head of Marketing", "VP Sales").
- Trigger moment when they typically need what you sell (e.g. "Series A funding", "new VP hire").
- For each ICP, you can mark a priority (1, 2, or 3). The first one is your highest priority.
These ICPs become the actual ICP records under Go To Market. They drive ICP scoring on every contact you import.
4. What you sell
- Your top services or packages (e.g. "Quarterly strategy retainer at £8k/mo").
- For each service, the wizard asks for the typical price range, target buyer profile, and ideal sales cycle length.
This populates the Services list which feeds the deal-creation form's "Service Offered" picker.
5. Your authority (the claim)
- A one-sentence positioning statement of what makes you the right person for the work.
- Examples the wizard offers if you're stuck.
Your authority claim shows up in Reply Coach drafts ("As someone who's spent the last decade helping fractional CMOs scale their agencies..."), proposals, and outreach. It's also what your contacts see on shared deal rooms and reports.
6. Your top connectors
- The 3-5 people you know who tend to refer business to you.
- For each, the wizard asks how often you talk and what kind of leads they send.
This seeds your network's "Top Connectors" view and shapes how Nynch suggests warm-intro paths.
7. Your weekly rhythm
- How many hours per week do you spend on sales / business development?
- How many calls, emails, DMs, and meetings is realistic for your week?
- What's your monthly revenue or new-client target?
These numbers seed the Today screen's Actions tab with weekly targets that match your reality, not generic defaults.
What happens when you finish
A "You're set up!" screen confirms onboarding is complete. Nynch:
- Marks
aha_first_setupin your onboarding state. - Routes you to the Today screen.
- Starts surfacing AI suggestions based on your answers.
If you connected an email or calendar during the wizard (some steps offer it inline), an "Importing history..." banner appears on Today while the import runs in the background. You can start working immediately; the import keeps going.
What you can change later
Everything. The wizard's answers are written to your Profile, your ICPs, your Services, your Authority Claim, and your weekly targets. All of those are editable from their respective pages in Nynch:
- Name, title, photo: Settings → Profile.
- ICPs: sidebar → Go To Market → ICPs.
- Services: sidebar → Go To Market → Services.
- Authority claim: sidebar → Go To Market → Authority.
- Weekly targets: Today → Actions tab.
If your business changes (new ICP, new service, new positioning), update these pages directly. You don't need to re-run the wizard for incremental changes.
When to re-run the wizard
Re-run it when:
- You pivot your business meaningfully (new market, new service mix).
- You bring on a co-founder or first sales hire and want them to walk a fresh onboarding.
- You feel like the AI's grounding has drifted and want to reset cleanly.
To re-run: Settings → Account → Restart Onboarding.
If something goes wrong
- Symptom: "The wizard never appeared after sign-up." → Fix: Onboarding is gated by a flag in localStorage and your user profile. Open Settings → Account → Restart Onboarding to launch it manually.
- Symptom: "I'm stuck on a wizard step that asks for input." → Fix: Most steps offer multiple-choice and free-text. If the multiple-choice list doesn't fit, just type a short free-text answer in the chat input. The AI accepts it and moves on.
- Symptom: "I made a bad answer on step 3 and want to fix it." → Fix: Most chat-based wizards let you scroll back and edit earlier answers. Look for the edit / pencil icon on previous messages. If that doesn't work, finish the wizard and edit the resulting Profile / ICP / Service directly.
- Symptom: "I clicked Restart and got routed to /onboard but the chat is blank." → Fix: Refresh once. If still blank, the AI service may be down briefly. Try again in a minute, or contact support if it persists.
- Symptom: "The wizard is asking questions I've already answered before." → Fix: Restart wipes prior answers on purpose. If you wanted to keep them, cancel the restart and edit the relevant fields directly from Settings / Go To Market.
After onboarding, what to do next
- Connect Gmail or Outlook. Settings → Email & Calendar. The Today flow needs this to be useful immediately.
- Connect Google Calendar. Same panel. Drives Meetings and AI meeting prep.
- Install the Chrome extension. Settings → Integrations → Nynch Chrome Extension. See Install the Chrome extension.
- Import contacts. See Importing your network for the right path based on where your contacts live now.
- Sort your network into rhythms. Run the Bucket Game.
By the end of this checklist, the Today flow becomes genuinely useful (it has actual contacts to surface) and most other AI features start working in earnest.
