Imported messages land in People > Messages > LinkedIn and are automatically deduplicated by message ID, so importing the same thread multiple times won't create duplicates.
Import messages from a DM thread
- Open any LinkedIn DM thread with a connection.
- Look for the Import Messages button above the conversation (typically at the top of the message list).
- Click Import Messages.
- The extension syncs all visible messages in the thread to Nynch.
- You'll see a confirmation in the sidebar showing the number of messages imported.
Auto-import new messages
The extension can automatically import new incoming messages from LinkedIn as they arrive:
- In the Nynch sidebar, toggle the Auto-Import Messages setting (if available in your sidebar's settings).
- With auto-import enabled, new messages in any thread are synced to Nynch automatically without manual clicking.
Where do your messages appear?
- Navigate to People in the left sidebar.
- Select a contact.
- Click the Messages tab.
- All imported LinkedIn messages appear under the LinkedIn section, separate from other communication channels.
- Each message shows the sender, timestamp, and message body.
Deduplication and updates
- Messages are matched by their LinkedIn message ID, so re-importing the same thread does not create duplicates.
- If you edit or delete a message on LinkedIn and re-import, Nynch preserves the original import and does not overwrite it.
If something goes wrong
Symptom: The Import Messages button doesn't appear on my DM thread. → Fix: The button only appears on LinkedIn DM threads (not group chats or LinkedIn notifications). Also check that the extension is loaded (you should see the Nynch sidebar on LinkedIn pages). If the sidebar is missing, see Extension Troubleshooting on LinkedIn.
Symptom: Messages imported successfully but they're not showing up in the contact's Messages tab. → Fix: Refresh the contact page or navigate away and back. If the messages still don't appear, check that you imported from the correct person's thread and that Nynch correctly matched them to the contact in your workspace.
Symptom: Some messages are missing from the import. → Fix: LinkedIn DM threads older than a few months may not load all historical messages in the browser. Scroll up in the DM thread to load older messages, then click Import Messages again to capture them.
