Deal canvas: Proposal tab

You'll learn how to: Use the Proposal tab to draft and track every proposal version for the opportunity, with AI assistance that grounds in Research & People stakeholder data.

Time: 5-30 minutes per proposal depending on depth.

Prereqs: An opportunity open on the canvas. Ideally at least one stakeholder is on the Research & People tab, since they feed the AI proposal drafts.

Where it is

Open an opportunity on Revenue. The Deal Canvas opens. Click the third tab, Proposal.

What's on the tab

  • Current proposal: the most recent draft. Shown in full at the top.
  • Version history: every previous version, with the date created, the author (you or the AI), and a delta from the previous version.
  • Status: Draft / Sent / Signed / Lost. Updates automatically when an e-signature is sent or completed.
  • Inline actions: Generate draft (AI), Edit, Duplicate as new version, Send for signature, Download as PDF.

Generate a draft

Click Generate draft (or + New version if you already have one).

The AI generates a proposal grounded in:

  • Research & People: who's on the buying side, their roles, and stakeholder data.
  • Your authority claim and services (configured in Strategy mode).
  • Past proposals with similar buyers (templates and patterns from your win history).

The draft appears in the editor pane. Typical sections:

  • Executive summary.
  • Problem statement (mirroring the buyer's pain).
  • Proposed approach.
  • Scope and deliverables.
  • Pricing and payment terms.
  • Timeline.
  • Success criteria.
  • Terms.

Edit any section inline. The AI's draft is a starting point; your edits become the canonical version.

Quick revise commands

While editing, you can ask the AI to revise sections:

  • "Make the executive summary shorter."
  • "Add more detail to the timeline."
  • "Rework pricing to a phased payment plan."
  • "Tone down the urgency."
  • "Reference our last meeting on stage X."

The AI rewrites in place. Your manual edits where the command doesn't touch are preserved.

Version a proposal

When you've made significant changes (new pricing, new scope), save as a new version:

  1. Click + New version (or Duplicate as new version).
  2. A new version appears in the history with today's date.
  3. Edit the new version freely. Previous versions stay intact for reference.

This matters when you've sent a version to the buyer and they've come back with feedback. Keep the sent version intact as an audit trail; iterate on a new version.

Send for signature

Click Send for signature. The e-signature flow opens:

  1. Pick which stakeholders should sign (from the Research & People tab).
  2. Set signing order if it matters (e.g. CFO signs last).
  3. Optional: add a personal message that accompanies the signature request.
  4. Send.

Each signer receives an email with a sign link. The Signatures section on the Check Fit tab tracks their status.

Download as PDF

Click Download as PDF. The current version exports as a PDF with your branding (configured in your avatar → Settings → Profile → Company Branding).

Use this when you want to send the proposal manually (e.g. as an attachment in a longer email thread) instead of going through the signature flow.

If something goes wrong

  • Symptom: "Generate draft button is greyed out." → Fix: Your plan may not include AI-drafted proposals. Check your avatar → Settings → Account. You can still build proposals manually by starting with a blank version.
  • Symptom: "Draft looks generic." → Fix: Two causes:
    • Stakeholders on Research & People are thin (no roles). Fill them in.
    • Your authority claim and services in Strategy mode are minimal. Refine them.
  • Symptom: "Send for signature fails." → Fix: Stakeholders need email addresses on file. Check Research & People; ensure each signer has a primary email.
  • Symptom: "I want to revert to an older version." → Fix: Click the older version in history > Duplicate as new version. You get a fresh version that's a copy of the old one, leaving history intact.
