Clients are the obvious place to start. They have approved the value and paid for it. But the warm base usually includes other categories that matter equally or more. Strong referrers may be more valuable than past clients, because they sit at the table where your work gets named. If a referrer understands your new focus clearly, they become a force multiplier. They remember you in conversations you are not part of. They shape how other people think about the problem you own.

Former colleagues often belong in the warm base, especially if they moved into companies that represent your buyer. They know how you think. They know what you are capable of. They have worked beside you and seen you solve problems under pressure. That credibility does not disappear just because you parted ways. It usually becomes more valuable, because they can now see you solving problems for their company from the outside.

Investors belong in the base too, even if they are not yet investors in the current practice. Someone who backed you before proved they believe in your judgment. That belief is durable. It is also valuable to other people. An investor's belief in you is a proof point that travels more easily than almost any other kind of credibility.

Suppliers and service partners can belong in the warm base if the relationship was real. Someone who provided you with something valuable and saw your professionalism up close is someone who might introduce you or refer you or alert you to an opportunity.

Advisors are often quietly underworked. Someone who gave you sound counsel and saw you work through a hard decision knows something real about your judgment. They are also often better connected than you are. An advisor who understands your new direction and trusts your thinking is useful in ways that go beyond their specific expertise.

The warm base is a set of relationships that have different depths and different payoff. The system should distinguish between them. Not to rank them, but to make sure the rhythm is right and the reason for touching them is clear.
