The spine is the shape the market can understand and repeat. The problem. The buyer. The offer. The proof. The point of view. The offer is not separate from positioning. It is the commercialisation of positioning. It is how the positioning becomes real in a conversation with a specific buyer.
When the offer is weak, the positioning is weak. A buyer might respect your point of view and still not know what to do next. They might understand the problem and still not imagine what an engagement looks like. The offer is the bridge between the thinking and the action. It is what makes the positioning concrete and actionable.
You cannot separate the spine from the offer. You cannot decide on the problem and the buyer and then wait to build the offer. The offer informs the positioning. If you cannot package the work clearly, the positioning needs to be sharper. If the offer feels vague, the problem needs to be more specific. The spine is built in layers. Each layer makes the next one stronger.
