The supply of articulate senior people has exploded. More are independent. More describe themselves in the same words. A market that once held a handful of recognisable operators now holds a crowd of strangers who all sound capable. That is good for buyers. It makes it harder for you to stand out. More choice does not mean clearer choice.

The way buyers actually find you has shifted more than most practitioners realise. A decade ago, visibility and credibility were allies. A sharp point of view was rare enough to signal real thinking. That took time and real knowledge. Now artificial intelligence has made the surface of expertise easy. More people publish polished posts. More write smooth proposals. More sound articulate about problems they half understand. Real expertise is still valuable. Where it shows up has changed. When everyone can sound credible, sounding credible stops being the filter. Proof has to be more specific. The problem has to be sharper. The relationship context has to be harder to copy.

Here is the shift that matters most. The decisive conversation about you happens when you are not in the room. A referrer describes you from memory in one message. A buyer reads your summary to an AI assistant and weighs you against alternatives. A prospect hears your name in a Slack thread. Your reputation gets compressed, repeated, and judged without you there to explain yourself. The old market rewarded visibility. The new market rewards people who can be remembered sharply for one specific problem.

Most critical: buyers now describe their own pain to AI before they reach out to you. A founder sits with a chat tool and says: My team is busy but nothing moves. I am still the only one who closes anything. My sales process lives in my head. I cannot step back. That language is exact. That language matters.

Your problem statement has to match how they name the pain. If you describe abstract capability, you will not match what they are already typing into the assistant. They will not think of you. And because that conversation happened alone with an AI, you will never know an introduction did not happen.
